Solyma...

Another worthwhile, though hard-to-find, addition to your collection of choral singing and bombastic music! Composed by Alain Pewzner and Patrick Leger, Solyma are a group of six male soloists and a mixed backing chorus (including eight children) who sing in four languages: Hebrew, Latin, Greek and Arabic. The style is similar to ERA and Lesiëm with original lyrics by Serge and Fabrice Talian and the choir has some very powerful voices which suit the music perfectly. Along with the voices, synthesiser backings and sampled rhythms and drumloops are a variety of traditional Middle Eastern instruments such as the oud, the Hebrew chofar (horn of ram) and the Arabic nai. The album was released in France with the sub-title Les Chant Des Hombres, and an alternate issue of this CD was released more widely in Europe without the French sub-title, but rather a label of International Version.
